Before Rental

What is included in the rental price?

Your Ring Rental price includes Third Party Liability (TPL), Collision Damage Waiver (CDW), Super Collision Damage Waiver (SCDW), Gravel Protection (GP), an additional driver, unlimited mileage and the Iceland road tax. Our complimentary shuttle between Keflavík Airport and our rental office is also included. Check your booking for the applicable excess and full coverage details.

Is the Iceland road tax included in the price?

Yes. The Iceland road tax is included in the final price shown on our website.

What is the minimum age to rent a vehicle?

You can rent a car from the age of 18. A young driver fee applies to drivers aged 18–20, and all car drivers must have held their driving licence for at least 12 months. For motorhomes, the minimum age is 25 and drivers must have held their licence for at least 24 months.

Can I use my foreign driving licence in Iceland?

Yes, provided it is valid and meets the rental requirements. Bring your original physical licence. If it is not written in Roman letters, you will also need an International Driving Permit or an accepted translation.

Can I rent without a credit card?

Yes. When you select Platinum Protection, you can use a physical debit card in the main driver’s name. Otherwise, the main driver must present a physical credit card in their name.

Is a security deposit required?

No. Ring Rental does not require a security deposit, regardless of the protection package you choose.

Do I need a 4x4 for the Ring Road?

For a summer trip on the Ring Road, a standard car may be suitable. Your choice should also reflect the season, weather forecast, number of passengers and any roads you plan to take beyond the main route. A 4x4 does not make a closed or unsafe road safe to drive.

Should I choose a car with a roof tent or a motorhome?

A roof tent vehicle gives you a car for exploring Iceland and a place to sleep at campsites. A motorhome provides an enclosed living and sleeping space. Compare the number of sleeping places, vehicle size and facilities shown for each model before booking.

Where can I camp with a roof tent or motorhome in Iceland?

Plan to stay at organised campsites. Overnight stays in a motorhome or roof tent vehicle outside organised campsites generally require permission from the landowner or rights holder, and additional restrictions may apply in protected areas.

Can I cancel or change my booking?

Please contact info@ringrental.is as soon as possible and include your booking number. Cancellation terms differ between cars and motorhomes, so check the conditions that apply to your reservation before making changes.

During Rental

How does pickup at Keflavík Airport work?

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. Maecenas ultricies mi eget mauris pharetra et ultrices neque ornare. A pellentesque sit amet porttitor eget.

After collecting your luggage and passing through customs, go to the arrivals hall. Meet our representative by the ATM near the main exit. They will guide you to the complimentary shuttle to our rental office.

What are road conditions like in Iceland?

Conditions can change quickly, especially in winter and in remote areas. Check the latest road and weather information before setting off, allow extra time for your journey and adjust your plans if conditions deteriorate.

Can I drive on F-roads?

Only take an F-road if your specific rental vehicle is a 4x4 and the road is open and passable. Check the vehicle restrictions and current conditions before entering the Highlands. Water damage, including damage from river crossings, is not covered by our protection packages.

Can I drive off-road in Iceland?

No. Stay on marked roads and tracks. Driving off-road damages Iceland’s fragile landscape and is prohibited.

Can I sleep in a regular rental car?

If you plan to sleep during your road trip, choose a vehicle with a roof tent or a motorhome and use an appropriate campsite. A standard rental car is intended for driving, not as camping accommodation.

What should I do if my vehicle breaks down or I have an accident?

Stop somewhere safe and call Ring Rental on +354 571 2266 for assistance. If anyone is injured or there is immediate danger, call the Icelandic emergency number 112 first. Report any damage or accident to us as soon as possible.

Who pays for parking, tolls and traffic fines?

The driver is responsible for charges incurred during the rental, including parking fees, tolls and traffic fines. Follow the payment instructions at each location; some charges in Iceland are collected electronically.

Can I extend my rental?

Contact us as early as possible at info@ringrental.is or +354 571 2266. Extensions depend on vehicle availability and may involve an additional charge. Please wait for confirmation before changing your return plans.

After Rental

Where do I return the vehicle?

Return it to Ring Rental at Bogatröð 2, 262 Reykjanesbær. After the return inspection, our complimentary shuttle will take you and your group to Keflavík Airport.

How should I return the fuel tank?

Return the vehicle with the same fuel level it had at pickup. Vehicles are normally supplied with a full tank and should be returned full unless your rental agreement states otherwise.

Do I need to clean the vehicle before returning it?

You do not need to wash away ordinary road dust. Please remove your rubbish and belongings. Excessive dirt or smoking in the vehicle may result in a cleaning charge under the rental terms.

What if I leave something in the vehicle?

Email info@ringrental.is or call +354 571 2266 as soon as possible. Include your booking number and a description of the item so our team can check the vehicle.
