Are SCDW and Gravel Protection really included in the price?

Yes. Both come with every Ring Rental booking. The collision excess is 150,000 ISK for cars and 4x4s or 200,000 ISK for motorhomes. The Gravel Protection excess is 25,000 ISK.

Do I need to pay a security deposit?

No. There is no security deposit with Included Protection or Platinum Protection.

Can I rent without a credit card?

Yes, if you choose Platinum Protection. You must present a physical debit card in the main driver’s name. Without Platinum, the main driver needs a physical credit card in their name.

Does Platinum cover every type of damage?

No. Platinum reduces the excess for covered damage to 0 ISK. The exclusions listed above and in the rental agreement still apply.

Is Roadside Assistance Waiver included in Platinum?

Roadside Assistance Waiver is a separate optional extra. You can choose it during booking to reduce eligible roadside assistance charges.

Excess amounts apply to eligible damage under the rental agreement. Exclusions apply to both options.

Also included in your rental price

An additional driver, unlimited mileage, the Iceland road tax and our shuttle between Keflavík Airport and the Ring Rental office are included. The road tax is part of the final price shown on our website.

What does the included protection cover?

CDW and SCDW: protection for collision damage

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) covers eligible damage to the vehicle’s bodywork. Super Collision Damage Waiver (SCDW) is included in every Ring Rental booking and reduces the excess for eligible collision damage to 150,000 ISK for cars and 4x4s or 200,000 ISK for motorhomes.

If the eligible repair cost is less than the excess, you pay the repair cost rather than the full excess.

Gravel Protection: included for Iceland’s roads

Loose stones can strike a vehicle on paved roads as well as gravel roads. Our included Gravel Protection covers eligible stone damage to the front windscreen, headlights and front of the vehicle. The excess is 25,000 ISK.

Third Party Liability and Theft Protection

Third Party Liability (TPL) provides cover for eligible injury or damage caused to others. Theft Protection (TP) covers theft of the rental vehicle under the rental terms. It does not cover personal belongings left inside the vehicle.

What does Platinum Protection add?

Platinum reduces the excess to 0 ISK for covered damage. It also adds Sand and Ash Protection, Tire Protection and protection for eligible damage caused by animals.

With Platinum, the main driver can use a physical debit card in their name instead of a credit card. Ring Rental does not require a security deposit with either protection option.

Platinum covers more, but exclusions still apply. Review the rental terms before choosing your protection.

Roadside Assistance Waiver

Roadside Assistance Waiver is a separate optional extra that reduces eligible charges for roadside help. Damage protection and roadside assistance cover different costs. You can review the waiver during booking and decide whether to add it for your trip.

What is not covered?

Our protection options have exclusions. These include:

Water damage, including damage from river crossings
Damage to the chassis or undercarriage
Damage to door frames or hinges caused by wind
Damage caused by driving under the influence
Damage caused by prohibited driving, negligence or a breach of the rental agreement
Motorhome damage caused while driving in winds of 15 m/s or more

Towing, recovery, traffic fines, tolls and other charges may remain the renter’s responsibility unless a separate waiver applies. The full rental agreement provides the complete coverage terms and exclusions.
